TP5/TP5x Amateur Ball Testing

With so many different golf balls on the market all saying the same thing, it’s no wonder golfers are cynical when it comes to performance claims. How to overcome it? Give regular, mid to high handicap players the opportunity to hit the TP5 and TP5x for the first time, compare it to the ball they’re currently playing, get their real, unscripted reactions on camera and let them do the talking for you.

TP5/TP5x Long Format Blank ball testing

To convince players of the improved performance of the the TP5 and TP5x from tee to green, TaylorMade conducted its own version of the blind taste test. The experience consisted of getting together a group of mid to high handicappers and putting their favorite golf balls head to head against a ball with no logo, which unbeknownst to them was the TP5 and TP5x. They played both balls from different distances and got all the info on trackman. When they were finished we asked if the performance they experienced in the mystery ball was enough to get them to switch.

TP5/TP5x - Hottest Ball on tour

Only a few months after launch of the TP5 and TP5x people were starting to take notice. So much so that five of the top ten pros had switched and were having success with it. TaylorMade wanted to remind people that the TP5 had become the hottest ball on Tour among the best on Tour, so we caught up with our pros to find out why they like it.

We created a hashtag combining both our “5-layer ball” and “Switch” messages (5witch) and asked people to share their experiences with the TP5 and TP5x on social channels. And, boy, did they ever. Here’s just a small sample.

TP5/TP5x - Win spots

TaylorMade wanted to be as timely as possible whenever one of their pros won a tournament playing the TP5 or TP5x. That meant the minute the winning putt was sunk on Sunday getting to work. On Mondays we’d edit. Tuesdays we’d ship. The spot would air beginning on Thursday and play through that week’s tournament. Here are just a few.
